Hands on Hanford is a culminating class including Language Arts and History. Students have focused on the foundations of US Government as well as why Hanford was seen as a necessity.
Students will recieve a packet of documents/literature/study materials that they will answer questions from on Mondays. This work is due on Thursday.
On Fridays students should be working on their Big Question!!
Each student has developed a Big Question to research for the next few months...projects will be due in January.
Some of the students are working on their Washington State History requirement and will have specific items to address as well.
Just a reminder that students should be working on research and homework for ONE hour a day that they are not in class (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday). If you see your student struggling or having dificulties please let me know!
Week of September 22nd: Students printed out an article describing life during the construction of Hanford. These were written from the point of view from someone who lived right here in the Tri-Cities!! They are to recreate a scene, diarama style, depicting life during this time period. I told them they could do it on a flat piece of cardboard, a shoe box or someother form of box would be fine as well. Students are not going to be graded on the artistic ability but rather the historical accuracy of their project. These are due on Thursday September 25th!!
Week of September 29th: Students will be evaluating the beginnings of the Cold War. They will be responsible for looking at ONE individual and researching that individual's role and responsibilities in the development of the 50 year Cold War. Students will evaluate each other's projects on Thursday and rank the indiviuals and their work.
Week of October 6th: Students will have an opportunity to hear from a retired Hanford Scientist who worked at the site for over 30 years. I have assigned the students 5 questions (they wrote them) so that they will be prepared to answer questions. Students this week will need to complete a flow chart on their BQ for Thursday.
**I am currently looking for volunteers for a "Walking Tour of ABC Homes in Richland" If you are available from 8am to 10am on Mondays or Thursdays and would like to know more please contact me!!
One reminder is that the Student's book project are due month...they are designing a 25 slide Power Point on the book they are reading.
