Drama Production News

The CHECK Drama class invites you to attend
'"Letters to a Student Revolutionary"
by Elizabeth Wong,
on Saturday evening, March 21st 7:30 pm,
in the Bethel Discovery Auditorium--South Side of the church by the new Gym
construction.
This play follows the lives of 2 pen pals that meet in China, in 1979
through the turbulent years of being teenagers and finally young adults as
the tragedy of Tiananmen Square unfolds in 1989. This thought provoking look
at youth cultures, politics and racism is appropriate for ages 12 and older
due to subject matter/violence of Tiananmen Square.
The Check drama class has worked extremely hard to put together this
challenging production--we hope you can come and enjoy their efforts!
Sincerely--The Check Drama Class

I NEVER SAW ANOTHER BUTTERFLY
Liberty Christian School will present
"I never Saw Another Butterfly"
this Friday and Saturday evening,
March 20th & 21st at 7pm.
This is a historical one-act play performed by middle and high school
students. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased from the Liberty office or at
the door. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Liberty Christian is located at 2200
Williams Blvd. in Richland.
"I Never Saw Another Butterfly" is an imaginative creation of the story of
Raja Englanderova, a child survivor of the Holocaust. From 1942 to 1945 more
than 15,000 Jewish children passed through Terezin, a former military
garrison set up as a ghetto. It soon became a transition station for
hundreds of thousands of Jews on their way to the gas chambers of Auschwitz.
While most of the children imprisoned at Terezin perished at Auschwitz, some
of their stories of life during the Holocaust are preserved in drawings and
poems, published in the book, I Never Saw Another Butterfly. When Terezin
was liberated in 1945, only about 100 children were alive to return to what
was left of their lives. One of those children was Englanderova, who
returned to her home in Prague after the liberation, and this is her story.
The book was created from the many documentary materials on Englanderova's
life, including poems, diaries, letters, journals, drawings and pictures.

What wonderful ways to experience some history this weekend --tough subjects
that we should all be more familiar with.
Hope you get to enjoy one or both of these dramas this weekend.

Library?

Parents:
It has been suggested that due to our lack of library and the requirement to read that we start a student library. I would love to collect any books that you are no longer needing in your home and start one in my classroom. I could catalog them but would like them to donated and not needed back...that way I don't have to police them! What does everyone think? If you would like to donate books please just send them on in...I will help students check out age appropriate books and will post books that are available so you can help your student select books as well!!
Thanks for all your help you make my job a joy!!
