Monday’s Topic: Poetry

In Class Activity: Free Verse


Tuesday and Wednesday Homework **As always 30 minutes reading with a short summary (5-7 sentences) of what you read**


Tuesday and Wednesday’s homework:

Read :”Unfinished Business” by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Answer questions: 3-7 page 269 and #1 on page 270 “Artistic Rendering”

Read: “Young” by Anne Sexton and “Hanging Fire” by Audre Lorde pg 344-345

Answer questions #1, #2 on page 344 and #3 and #4 on page 346

In Class Activity: Cooking around the world


Homework: Complete assigned work on APEX.

Monday’s Topic: Amendments of the Constitution


Homework Tuesday: Using the chart; define and illustrate the listed Amendments


Wednesday: Watch video on Thomas Jefferson and John Adams and write down their similarities and differences.



Thursday’s Topic: Democracy in Action


Middle School Language Arts

Monday’s Topic: Poetry

Homework: Students will need to read a minimum of 30 minutes a night and will write a 5 sentence of summary of what is occurring in their book.


Tuesday’s Homework: Illustrate : “Where the Sidewalk Ends” by Shel Silverstein




Wednesday’s Homework: Using ONE of your five senses, write a poem that addresses this sense.

Writing/Reading Workshop:Students were given their Workshop Workbooks. These will be what the students work on independently in class. Students will work both independently and in groups to improve their skills.


Cooking Class: Homemade Candies- Everyone is responsible for bringing in a bag of candy melts. Any color would be fine! You can find these at any craft store OR you can pick up a bar of Almond bark at the grocery store!


Writer’s Circle Questions

1. Would you like to read something else by this author? Why or why not?

2. Do any of the characters change in the story? What caused them to change?

3. How might the story be different if it had happened somewhere else (or in a different time period)?

4. How are you different from one of the characters? Explain.

5. If you had been the main character in this story, would you have acted differently? Explain why or how.

6. If you could trade places with one of the characters, which one would it be, and why?

7. How did you feel about this story? Would you recommend it to someone else? Why or why not?

8. Was there a character you didn‘t like? Why didn’t you like this character?

9. What do you think was the best part of the story? Why?

10. What was the theme or the author’s message? What events helped you figure out the message?
