Week of October 20th

Hands on Hanford students have been studying the Cold War; looking at the differnces of Kruschev and Reagan as well as interviewing their parents about what their parents remember of the Cold War. Interesting fact: Two parents remembered the Vietnam War and the majority remembered the Berlin Wall coming down. A few remembered nothing...a good connection is that many students in the classroom only could recall September 11th as a major event in their own lives!!
Thursday we traveled around the streets of Jadwin looking for ABC homes; homes that were built during the Hanford-Manhattan Project~!
Homework: ALL BQ EVIDENCE IS DUE ON MONDAY~~Students are to bring in their information (books, videos, etc.)

Middle School Language Arts: Students have finalized the newspaper and are proud to present it all to you on Monday for conferences.

Middle School History: Students have finished up on their Statehood and are customizing their own board games.

Conference News: Parents are encouraged to take home all diaramas and projects from my classes!!

Hope to see you all at the Conferences on the 27th!!

The title for the School Newspaper is now official "Three Rivers Times". I am so excited to see the first edition...hopefully it will be in print in time for the Conferences on the 27th of October! This will be a monthly publication.

Middle School History
Thanks for all the parental involvement in history assignments. I really am trying to get more assignments that involve you personally!! Just a few important notes:

Hands On Hanford:

2 guest speakers that have retired from Hanford that will be able to discuss the history of the plant as well as personalize the events that occured over 40 years at Hanford have been planned for this month.

I am attempting to plan a Walking Tour of ABC homes but am in need of volunteers (Mon or Thurs from 9-10am) during the month of October.

Book Projects are due at the end of the month...25 slides from PowerPoint. If you would like to see the rubric (scoring guide) please send me an email and I will send you one!!

Middle School Language Arts:

Students are designing a student newspaper that will hopefully be published once a month. Sara Schilling from the Tri-City Herald came in on 10/9 and gave a GREAT presentation. I would like to plan a trip to the Herald plant sometime in October...more details to follow!!

Students are studying the history of Washington State and have covered Gold Rush, Settlers and Missionaries. This week the kids prepared Narcissa Camp Bread and Indian Fry Bread! Eric and Alice appreciated your student's cooking abilities!!
